Hello there!
Welcome to the new folks who have recently joined. So long to 2020! A few quick notes upfront:
All previous newsletters are archived. Lots of stuff to check out including a link to the original 2011 screenplay of THE BLACK SKY, hints and helps to get started on the real work easter egg hunt teased at the back of the book, and more!
If you read and enjoyed THE BLACK SKY, I would be grateful if you left a review or a rating at Amazon or GoodReads.
There’s a “music inspired by” soundtrack you can listen to at your favorite streaming sites like Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL, etc. If you prefer physical media, you can also grab the album on compact disc at Bandcamp.
For those that have read THE BLACK SKY, you may remember a mention or two of a bar called “The Dank,” the place Tessa worked at in college where she and Bishop met. I created a virtual playlist for this “punk rock bar,” which you can check out on Spotify.
END OF 2020
Over at my blog, I posted my top five albums of 2020. If you enjoy listening to new music, check ‘em out (I posted links to their Bandcamp pages), or check out the “Music We’re Thankful For in 2020” episode of Dig Me Out we posted a few weeks back.
My reading this year was down. For a long stretch during the pandemic lockdown and various horrible things happening this year, I had close to a zero attention span. You can see from my GoodReads list I only managed to finish eight books (I didn’t finish Altered Carbon).
I’ve got a solid to-read list ready to go for 2021, including the next couple of books in The Expanse series.
THE RED SKY
The last couple of weeks have been holiday/family/job-focused, so nothing new to report. I’m mentally putting pieces into place for plotting and characters, which is the best I’ve felt about where I’m at in the while.
No updates this time around for THE RED SKY playlist on Spotify. New additions coming in 2021!
Stuff I’m Into
Books - Currently reading WOOL by Hugh Howey.
TV/Movies - Finished THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT on Netflix - highly recommend it if you haven’t checked it out yet. Currently watching the fifth season of THE EXPANSE on Amazon, and finished season two of HIS DARK MATERIALS on HBO. After a shaky season one, HDM kicked it up a notch in season two. Still drags at points, a little too much gazing angrily/sadly, but liked the direction it’s going and the chances they started taking with the material.
The Bee Gees documentary “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart” on HBO Max is really good. Watched HIDDEN FIGURES (really good!) and WW84 (not so good).
Music - Styles We Paid For by Guided By Voices, White Pony / Black Stallion by Deftones, Stay Freee / Grave Mistake single by The Lees Of Memory, McCartney III by Paul McCartney, Matter of Time EP by Eddie Vedder.
What are you watching, reading, listening to at the moment?
Stay Safe!
